Daughter of a freedom fighter, Feni Government College student, and organizing secretary of the district unit Chhatra League, Dola Chowdhury was gang-raped by 12 people linked to the local BNP-Jamaat at her house on the night of August 6.

Later, she was tortured with iron rods and a spatula all over her body. When she fell unconscious, the attackers left the house, assuming that she had died.

The criminals also obstructed the rescuers when she was being taken to Dhaka for better treatment. Then she was taken to the Noakhali Government Hospital.

Sharing the story of her barbaric torture at a live program on May 25, Dola said she had joined the Chhatra League in 2012 and became a leader of the college and the district unit in 2019.

Dola described how she had worked for the welfare of the poor students of 18 departments, built a mosque at the college, and served the common people during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Awami League President and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina said these culprits are the successors of Pakistani military ruler Yahya Khan.

“I could not imagine that my party supporters would be tortured this way. They tortured you like the Pakistani occupation army.

“You are like my daughter. Have patience. Consider it a bad dream. Be strong.

“I will teach them a lesson. I will ensure justice. No one will be spared.

“Yunus will face the music. He has reached his old age, has one leg in the grave, and suffers from Parkinson’s.”
